Hans Lundgren, more commonly known as Dolph Lundgren, is a multifaceted Swedish actor, filmmaker, and martial artist born on November 3, 1957, in Spånga, Sweden.

Dolph Lundgren obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in the early 1980s, and then went on to earn his master’s degree in the same field from the University of Sydney in 1982. In addition to his academic accomplishments, Lundgren is also an accomplished martial artist, holding a 4th dan black belt in Kyokushin karate, and was crowned European champion in 1980–81.

While in Sydney, Dolph Lundgren’s life took an unexpected turn when he became a bodyguard for Jamaican model and actress Grace Jones. Jones and Lundgren began dating and she convinced him to pursue an acting career and the two starred in Bond film A View to a Kill in 1985.

It was only a short cameo role in A View to a Kill, but it set him on the path to becoming a household name. Later that year, Dolph Lundgren achieved international fame with his role as the imposing Soviet boxer Captain Ivan Drago in the 1985 film Rocky IV.

Since then, Dolph Lundgren’s filmography includes blockbusters He-Man in Masters of the Universe (1987), and Sergeant Andrew Scott/GR13 in Universal Soldier (1992). Lundgren has also played roles in popular direct-to-video releases such as The Punisher (1989), The Mechanik (2005), and Hard Night Falling (2019), among others.

In addition to acting, Dolph Lundgren is also a martial artist and his Kyokushin karate skills has allowed him to star in numerous martial arts-themed films such as I Come in Peace (1990), Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991), and The Expendables (2010), which he also co-wrote and directed.

Dolph Lundgren’s filmography also includes roles in limited releases such as The Peacekeeper (1997), In the Name of the King 2: Two Worlds (2011), Riot (2015), and Altitude (2017), among others. He has also made appearances in major blockbuster films such as Aquaman (2018) and its upcoming sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023). Lundgren has also lent his voice to several animated films and TV shows, such as the voice role of Svengeance in Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022) and the voice of Dolph in the TV series Seal Team (2021).

In addition to his film career, Dolph Lundgren has also directed several films, including The Defender (2004), Missionary Man (2007), and Icarus (2010). He has also served as a producer on several of his films, such as The Mechanik (2005) and Blood of Redemption (2013).

In 1994, Dolph Lundgren married Anette Qviberg, but they divorced in 2011. They have two children. As of 2020, Lundgren is enagaged to Norwegian personal trainer Emma Krokdal.
