Paul Stassino Biography
Paul Stassino, born Phaedros Stassinos in the small town of Platres in Cyprus, was an actor known for his work in British films and television.
Stassino’s acting career began when he was just 18 years old, after he secretly obtained a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
From there, he went on to appear in numerous British films and television dramas, including popular shows like Danger Man and The Saint alongside future 007 Roger Moore. Stassino even had a brief stint on Coronation Street in 1968, playing the role of Hungarian demolition contractor Miklos Zadic.
Paul Stassino’s most notable performance was in the 1965 James Bond film Thunderball, where he played two characters: Major François Derval and Angelo Palazzi. He also had roles in other notable films, such as That Riviera Touch and Tiger Bay.
After his acting career in England came to a close, Stassino moved to Athens and worked as a director in a casino there. However, his love for his homeland eventually drew him back to Cyprus, where he continued to work in the Public Theatre in Nicosia as an actor and director. He retired in Limassol, where he spent his remaining years until his passing in 2012.
