Pussy Galore

Pilot of Intrigue: The Enigmatic Pussy Galore

Pussy Galore, portrayed by the late Honor Blackman, made her iconic debut in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, adapted from Ian Fleming’s 1958 novel.

The character, known for her intelligence, self-assurance, and inflexibility, has also appeared in video games GoldenEye: Rogue Agent (2004) and 007 Legends (2012), with Blackman’s likeness, but voiced by Jeannie Elias and Natasha Little.

Of course Pussy Galore’s name is controversial, and the producers knew they were pushing the boat, especially in 1960s America, but thanks to Prince Philip they got around it. It’s not just her name, however, as Pussy Galore boasts iconic status, which has led to the creation of numerous collectibles, such as action figures, posters, and memorabilia.

Pussy Galore

Pussy Galore is the personal pilot of gold smuggler Auric Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe), and she leads a female aviator team called Pussy Galore’s Flying Circus.

She plays a crucial role in Goldfinger’s Operation Grand Slam, which aims to infiltrate Fort Knox and increase Goldfinger’s wealth exponentially.

In the film, she’s the pilot aboard Goldfinger’s private jet, and is tasked with escorting Bond to Goldfinger’s stud farm in Kentucky. James Bond (Sean Connery) had been shot by Kisch with a tranquilizer dart, and awakens to find her looming over him.

She introduces herself to Bond as ‘Pussy Galore.’ Hearing this, a dazed and groggy Bond can’t help but smirk, remarking to himself, ‘I must be dreaming.’

Pussy Galore reassures Bond that he’s not dead and that he had only been struck by a tranquilizer. She then warns him that she won’t hesitate to use it again, recommending that he relax, drink a cocktail, and enjoy the flight.

Once they land, Pussy takes Bond to Goldfinger’s Kentucky stud farm, where they encounter the Flying Circus pilots. She then takes Bond to Goldfinger’s ranch and locks him in a cell.

Later, while Goldfinger is enjoying drinks with Pussy, he spots two men with binoculars observing the farm. Realizing they must be Bond’s allies, he decides to invite Bond for a drink to maintain a friendly facade and create a false sense of security. Goldfinger instructs Pussy to bring 007 from his cell for entertainment.

After sharing a drink, Pussy takes Bond to a barn to keep up appearances. Bond, however, tries to seduce her into thwarting Goldfinger’s scheme. Pussy resorts to judo, tripping Bond, and the two engage in a spirited judo exchange.

Ultimately, Bond gains the upper hand, and they share a passionate kiss. As a result, Pussy turns against Auric Goldfinger, instructing the Flying Circus to replace the nerve gas with a harmless substance and informing the U.S. government of Goldfinger’s plot. She also arranges for soldiers at Fort Knox to feign being gassed, luring Goldfinger into a trap for capture.

Following Bond and his American allies’ successful deactivation of the bomb and the foiling of Goldfinger’s scheme, Pussy Galore is coerced into piloting a plane meant to transport 007 to a meeting with the President at the White House.

Unbeknownst to her, Goldfinger has commandeered the plane intending to personally kill 007. In a thrilling turn of events, Bond overpowers Goldfinger, sending him through a window after depressurizing the cabin.

Bond and Pussy Galore then make their escape using a parachute. As she attempts to signal a searching helicopter, Bond persuades her otherwise and they share an intimate moment.

It’s not known what happened to Pussy Galore after this, but she has certainly made her mark on the James Bond franchise.
