You Wear It Well: Rod Stewart’s Bond Girl Knicker Obsession
Rod Stewart has never been a man to shy away from flamboyance, but who would have guessed that his penchant for sartorial extravagance extended into Britt Ekland’s underwear drawer? Yes, you read that right—according to the former Bond girl, the spiky-haired crooner had a curious habit of slipping into her knickers.
“He did use to like to wear my underwear though,” she alleged. “He would wear these baggy satin trousers and needed little satin pants. Rod would wear my knickers. He liked them.”
Now, while most of us might assume that the lead singer of Maggie May had a wardrobe brimming with enough lace and silk of his own, it seems Stewart found Ekland’s delicates a more comfortable fit. And this wasn’t just an idle habit—Ekland later clarified that he even wore them on stage, ostensibly “to keep the package in place.” A true showman to the last.

Love, Rent, and Yves Saint Laurent
One might expect that a rock star of Stewart’s stature would treat his live-in partner to the finer things in life—jewels, couture, perhaps a few extra pairs of satin smalls. But according to Ekland, not only was there no luxurious lifestyle to be had, she was actually required to chip in for living expenses.
“I had to pay $100 a month board and lodgings when I was living with him,” she told the Mail on Sunday. “I would go shopping with him and watch him buy clothes from Yves Saint Laurent but nothing for me.”
But the Swedish beauty, who starred as Mary Goodnight in The Man with the Golden Gun, insists she has always been financially independent. “I always worked. I paid my way,” she said.
That independence, however, didn’t extend to her place in Stewart’s musical legacy—at least, not according to him. Ekland has long maintained that You’re In My Heart was written as a tribute to their passionate but ill-fated relationship. Stewart, on the other hand, has dismissed this claim, insisting that the lyrics were actually inspired by his beloved football club, Celtic FC.

A Love Story That Ended in Infidelity—And No Apology
Ekland’s two-year relationship with Stewart was ultimately doomed when she discovered his infidelity. And in true Hollywood fashion, the revelation came via another famous name—actor George Hamilton.
“George Hamilton told me, ‘Oh how funny. [My wife] has just left me for your ex-boyfriend,’” she recalled. “Suddenly a light went on and I thought, ‘Rod.’ I got in the car and drove home. I wanted to throw up.”
While most remorseful exes might at least muster a sheepish apology, Ekland claims that Stewart never did. “He never said sorry,” she stated. “Never. I wish he had. I think that would have brought it to an end. I think it is only fair to do that.”
The Legacy of Love, Lace, and Rock & Roll
Rod Stewart has always been a man of contradictions—satin and football, rock and romance, heartbreak and humor. But perhaps You’re In My Heart wasn’t the most fitting song to sum up his time with Britt Ekland. Given the revelations, she might have been better off writing her own response—You’re in My Pants.
