George Lazenby Wants Liam Hemsworth as Next Bond

George Lazenby Wants Fellow Aussie Liam Hemsworth as Next Bond

As the dispute around who should be cast as the next James Bond builds, former 007 George Lazenby has made clear that his top pick is fellow Australian Liam Hemsworth.

George Lazenby famously quit after only a single turn as James Bond in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Although the movie had mixed reviews at first, it is now recognized as one of the best films in the movie series.

As Bond fans eagerly await the announcement of who will take over from Daniel Craig as Bond, Lazenby has put his fellow Aussie forward for the role.

At the moment, Aaron Taylor Johnson is the favourite to pick up keys for the DB5, but with Henry Cavill free of time after being released from DC Universe for the next Superman movie, many would like to see him take hold of the Walther PPK.

Fans favourite Tom Hardy is regularly touted to become the next Bond, and other names regularly making connections include Will Poulter, Nicholas Hoult, Sam Heughan, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, and Dev Patel.

George Lazenby is Pushing for a Second Aussie Bond

With so many high quality names in the running the decision will likely be a long one. That’s said, Lazenby is adamant ‘a good-looking Aussie dude’ should be the next one to don the tuxedo.

Speaking to TMZ, George Lazenby said Liam would be the best one to take over as Bond, as the Aussie actor is ‘crazy enough, arrogant enough, confident enough, ambitious enough to take on the role.’

Having famously declined a seven-film contract after his part in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the 83-year-old was full of praise for 32 year old Liam, saying he was confident he’d maintain his youthful good looks while churning out Bond moves for the next decade.

The one-off Bond also previously said he’d like to see fellow Margot Robbie become the first female Bond.

‘I would rather see a woman on screen than a man, so it might be a good idea having a woman play James Bond… Jane Bond. I think it’s a good idea,’ said Lazenby who then pushed for his fellow Australian to get the nod.

‘I mean, why not? There’s an Australian actress that I was just listening to on the television today, Margot Robbie. She would be good. She’s ballsy. She comes across like she’s very confident… if you can pull that off, people will believe you.’

Liam Hemsworth Would Make an Excellent Bond

Liam Hemsworth is a seasoned actor, and he’s no stranger to the action genre, having starred in Expendables 2 and Independence Day: Resurgence.

With his chiseled good looks and charming Aussie accent, he’d make for an interesting addition to the Bond franchise. He has age on his side, he’s popular, and according to George Lazenby, ‘he’s a good looking Aussie dude,’ so why not?
