Welsh Actor Luke Evans to be next Bond?

Is Hollywood about to see another Welsh actor make their way into one of the most sought-after roles in the movie industry? Luke Evans has made his way up the betting order, and is now one of the favorites to don the tuxedo next.

Timothy Dalton, who was born in Colwyn Bay, made his mark as James Bond in The Living Daylights (1987) and Licence to Kill (1989) during the 80s. Now Welsh actor in Luke Evans is being touted as a strong contender to take over as the iconic 007, following his performances in the Fast and Furious and Hobbit franchises.

The role of James Bond was recently vacated by Daniel Craig, who called time on his tenure after five movies, culminating in No Time to Die (2021). The decision on Craig’s replacement is yet to be announced, but speculation on who will fill the role continues to swirl. As of now, Evans is still behind leaders Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but he’s closing in.

Luke Evans to be next 007?

It is no secret that the role of 007 is highly coveted and fiercely guarded in the movie world. Evans has been asked about his potential link to the role on multiple occasions. In December, when he was quizzed about it on BBC Breakfast, he joked that he could be a musical bond and sing the movie’s theme tune.

He also stated that he was “honored” to be considered for the role, but he had no answers, and whoever stepped into the role would have big shoes to fill. Evans said he wouldn’t say no to the role, saying no one in his position would either.

Currently, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the favorite to become the next James Bond, according to most bookies. William Hill has the Avengers: Age of Ultron and Kick-Ass star at 6/4 odds, slightly ahead of Henry Cavill (Superman and The Witcher) at 9/4.

Who'll be the next Bond

James Norton, who played Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley, has seen his odds to become the next Bond slashed from 7/1 to 3/1 since the final season of the popular BBC series aired.

Tom Hardy and Rege-Jean Page round out the top five favorites. Despite ruling himself out earlier this year, Luther actor Idris Elba is still among the top 10 favorites for the role. He confirmed his focus was on his role in Luther and not James Bond.

We’re still no closer to finding out who’ll be the next Bond. Luke Evans has been touted for a while, but recently, the rumors have been getting stronger. But if there’s one thing we do know, the producers usually surprise everyone, so for now, it’s just rumors.
